You may or may not notice that the one fixture that can really make or break a bathroom is the shower. If you have rusty, dirty and decrepit shower, it can drag the whole bathroom down. On the contrary, if you have a beautiful new shiny shower in there, your whole bathroom is instaneously upgraded. Of course, getting a new shower can be an expensive and time consuming process, and we’ve all heard the home remodeling horror stories to make us think twice about taking on a home improvement project like this.
The first thing you want to do is get your ducks in a row. Find out what size shower you want to put in your bathroom, and determine the style you want to go with. Do you want a modern all glass shower enclosure, or do you want safety first in a kids’ bathroom with fiberglass shower enclosures? Is there anything else you want to replace while you’re doing a bathroom improvement project? It’s more cost effective to do it all at once, rather than improving things separately. If your bathroom vanity need s replacing, or the toilet is scary and you want put a new one in, decide all this before you call in an expert so that you know exactly what you want and don’t get talked into anything you don’t want.
The next thing you want to do is shop around. Compare prices on the fixtures you are looking for, and find out who makes the highest quality showers or vanities and who gives the best prices. Remember, you get what you pay for, so if something looks too good to be true, it probably is. And fixtures like showers or bathroom vanities should last for many years, they should not be things you replace every couple years. Even if that steam shower you want at Store A is a little more than that discount shower at store B, find out how these showers were constructed, and what their warranties are. Good shower and bath retailers are going to have a great warranty, because they are offering a great product. Beware of retailers who don’t have a warranty or customer satisfaction policy, or have warranties for very short periods of time.
So go ahead and start planning your bathroom home improvement project. Once you replace the shower and any other fixtures that need to be upgraded, you will love your new bathroom and you’ll probably have to be pried out of your new space! |
