Everyone remembers that one teacher in elementary school that was very enthusiastic about saving the rainforest. She taught us all about the different ecosystems and the wide variety of plant and animal life. My second grade teacher was my rainforest enthusiast. She even turned our entire classroom into a mini rainforest by creating a large tree out of cardboard and tissue paper and hanging fake vines from the ceiling. In the eyes of my second-grade self, it was magical. I was ready to move to Brazil and start saving those endangered species all by myself by taking them home and raising them in my own backyard.
This dream of mine never became a reality of course because my parents refused to allow leopards to stay in our guest bedroom, but my passion for the rainforest is something I have never forgotten.
