You know what I want for Christmas this year? I’m talking about what I really want here, not just something that we say when other people ask us. More than anything, I would like less stress! I love my family and my career, but sometimes the balancing act gets exhausting, and I just want to drop all the balls I’m juggling and go to a quiet retreat with no people, no phones, no computers….doesn’t that sound like what we all really want? I mean, I don’t want to run away forever, but to just have that quiet space to retreat to more often than once a year would be great.
That’s when my husband had a great idea! He thought he would work on improving the bathroom showers in our master bath and the kids’ bathroom, and when he finished I found that he had a put in a shower massage column for me. After my first shower I was sold, and wondered where this thing of beauty had been my whole life! The extra water jets and massage settings I can use to melt away my worries is wonderful, and once my husband replaced the old shower stall with a shiny new glass shower enclosure, I really felt like I was in a spa. With his weekend home improvement project, he transformed our old bathroom into a little retreat for me, so that I could enjoy the stress relieving spa feeling for a few minutes everyday.
Now that I have my own little oasis of peace and quiet in the shower everyday, I find that my stress levels have come down, as well as my blood pressure amazingly enough! My husband could not have picked a better home improvement project to make my Christmas wish come true. And that’s not even to mention how he turned around the kids’ bathroom! He put a double sink vanity in there so the kids don’t have to bicker about who gets the sink first, and they just love their new bathtub. We all enjoy our time doing the necessary tasks in the bathroom everyday, so we will need to come up with something really spectacular, not the usual tie or shirt, for his Christmas present to thank him. It's amazing how a little thing like a new steam or jetted shower or bathtub can just transform the bathroom. |
